Montenegro Aims to Close More EU Negotiation Chapters by Year-End

Montenegro’s Minister for European Affairs, Gorčević, announced that the country aims to close additional chapters in its negotiations with the European Union by the end of the year. During a recent statement, she emphasized that Montenegro’s commitment to the EU accession process remains firm and on schedule.
In her remarks from April 2023, Gorčević outlined a plan to internally close at least six chapters of the EU negotiations by the year’s end. This ambitious target reflects Montenegro’s effort to advance its integration into the European Union and fulfill the necessary requirements for membership.
Addressing the parliamentary committee in July 2023, Gorčević reiterated that the negotiation process with the EU is proceeding as planned. She indicated that the country is set to close an additional five chapters before the year’s conclusion. This development demonstrates Montenegro’s proactive approach to the accession process, highlighting the government’s dedication to meeting the EU’s standards and expectations.
The ongoing negotiations are crucial for Montenegro, which has been a candidate for EU membership since 2010. The closure of these chapters is seen as a significant milestone in the nation’s journey towards full EU integration, fostering economic growth and stability in the region.
As Montenegro works towards these goals, it remains vital for the government to maintain transparency and engage with the public regarding progress in the negotiation process. The successful closure of the planned chapters will not only enhance Montenegro’s standing with the EU but also contribute to the broader stability and prosperity of the Balkans.
