European Golf Club to Undergo Major Renovation, Closing for Two Years

The prestigious European Golf Club, located in Brittas Bay, County Wicklow, is set to close its doors for a significant renovation starting on December 8, 2025. The club, widely recognized as one of Ireland’s premier golfing destinations, will remain shut until late Spring 2027, following a recent acquisition and plans for extensive redevelopment.

Earlier this year, the club was purchased for €35 million by Raymond and Nicky Conlan, who aim to enhance the course’s facilities and overall appeal. The European Golf Club has recently been acclaimed as the 14th best course in Ireland, according to Irish Golf magazine, and it ranks 93rd in Golf Digest’s top 100 courses globally for 2024.

In an email sent to club members, the Conlans outlined their vision for the redevelopment, stating, “This project represents a significant investment and will create a new and different golfing offering, designed to stand alongside the very best destinations internationally.” The email confirmed that all existing memberships will conclude with the club’s closure on December 8, 2025. New membership opportunities will be available once the renovations are complete.

The European Golf Club has been a cornerstone of Irish golf since its establishment in 1987. It has hosted numerous top-tier golfers, including Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, who holds the course record with a score of 67.

As the Conlans prepare to revamp the club, they expressed gratitude to the current members for their support and indicated that updates regarding the new developments will be shared through a dedicated website in the future. The upcoming changes reflect a growing trend in the golf industry to invest in course enhancements that attract both local and international players.
