Fans Rush to Binge ‘The Witcher’ Before Season 4 Releases
Fans of the popular series The Witcher have just a few days left to prepare for the highly anticipated fourth season, set to premiere on October 30, 2025. This new season will introduce all eight episodes at once, allowing viewers to binge-watch the entire series in one go. Based on the acclaimed fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, the show follows the adventures of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.
One of the most significant changes this season is the lead role of Geralt, now portrayed by Liam Hemsworth after Henry Cavill departed from the series following its third season. While some fans have expressed concerns about this transition, many are eager to see what Hemsworth brings to the character.
Season 4 Brings New Challenges and Characters
The fourth season continues to follow the intertwined destinies of Geralt, along with key characters Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Initially separated across different timelines, their paths converge as Geralt becomes Ciri’s protector, striving to shield her magical blood from those who would exploit it.
Fans may note that this upcoming season draws heavily from Sapkowski’s novel Baptism of Fire. Each preceding season has adapted material from various works in the series, with the first season based on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, and the second and third seasons incorporating elements from Blood of Elves and Time of Contempt.
Mixed Reviews and Fan Reactions
The reception of The Witcher has varied across its seasons. The inaugural season garnered a modest score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second season saw a significant improvement, achieving a 95% rating. Critics have praised the series for its expansive storytelling and stunning visuals, describing it as ‘epic’ and ‘gorgeous’.
Despite this, audience reactions have fluctuated. The second season received a 54% approval rating from viewers, which further plummeted to 20% for season three. As a result, apprehension exists among fans regarding Hemsworth’s portrayal of Geralt. Some have taken to social media to express their excitement, with one user stating, “Pretty excited for this! I bet Liam is going to crush it!” Yet, many remain loyal to Cavill’s interpretation of the character.
The transition of lead actors has been attributed to a mix of creative differences with the show’s writers and scheduling conflicts during filming. While Hemsworth takes over the role, the overarching narrative continues to hold the interest of viewers, many of whom are hopeful for a successful new direction.
In addition to the television series, The Witcher has spawned a successful video game franchise, with numerous titles released between 2007 and 2025, further solidifying its place in popular culture.
As the release date approaches, fans of The Witcher are eagerly preparing to dive back into this richly crafted fantasy world. With Hemsworth stepping into the shoes of Geralt, the fourth season promises to deliver fresh adventures and challenges for its beloved characters.
