Budva to Host Major Arts Festivals Summit in May 2026
The city of Budva, Montenegro, will serve as the host for the prestigious Arts Festivals Summit from May 16 to 19, 2026. This annual event, organized by the European Festivals Association (EFA), will gather approximately 250 festival directors, artists, cultural managers, and representatives from both local and European institutions.
During the four-day summit, attendees will exchange ideas, discuss the future of arts festivals, and collaborate on new projects. The summit will kick off with a formal opening ceremony on May 16, which will set the stage for a series of conferences, workshops, and plenary sessions over the next two days. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore Budva’s social aspirations, artistic scene, and cultural heritage.
The final day of the summit will feature a central program, including the EFA General Assembly. Here, members will adopt future action plans, promote new members, and select the host city for the next gathering.
Since its inception 74 years ago, the EFA has facilitated numerous meetings, debates, and discussions across various European cities. These interactions have significantly influenced the cultural trajectories of European institutions and benefited a broad network of experts, including EFA members, festival managers, emerging artists, and representatives from various cities and regions.
Grad Teatar has been a member of the EFA since 2021. The selection of this institution to organize one of the EFA’s key events is particularly noteworthy as it coincides with the celebration of its 40 years of festival experience. Following the successful summit held in Edinburgh in 2025, this recognition underscores the quality of Grad Teatar’s long-standing commitment to the arts and its established international standing.
The summit is expected to have a significant impact on the wider community, enhancing Budva’s cultural, professional, and tourism visibility within European frameworks. It will also create opportunities for future collaborations in the international cultural landscape, according to a statement from Grad Teatar Budva.
As Budva prepares for this major event, it reaffirms its commitment to fostering a vibrant cultural scene and enhancing its role within the European arts community.
