Arsenal and Chelsea Compete for Marseille’s Bakola in January Transfer Window
Interest is heating up in the January transfer window as both Arsenal and Chelsea are looking to secure the talents of Marseille midfielder Darryl Bakola. The 18-year-old has emerged as a promising player in France, drawing attention from several clubs, including Newcastle United, VfB Stuttgart, and Borussia Dortmund. According to Footmercato, Bakola’s future at Marseille may be uncertain if he declines a contract extension offered by the club, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2027.
Meanwhile, Manchester United has set its sights on RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. Following their missed opportunity to sign Antoine Semenyo, United is reportedly “keeping track” of the 19-year-old’s progress. Diomande has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga this season, contributing to eight goals in 14 matches. His transfer fee could be around £87 million if United decides to pursue a formal bid, particularly as he is currently participating in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and is expected to return to his club by the end of January. Diomande’s current contract with Leipzig runs until June 2030.
Other Notable Transfer Rumors
The transfer landscape is buzzing with additional rumors. Liverpool has received a boost in their pursuit of defender Marc Guéhi after Barcelona reportedly cooled their interest in the Crystal Palace captain. With Barcelona reluctant to enter a bidding war due to financial constraints, clubs like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid may ramp up their efforts to sign Guéhi, who is eager to resolve his future as soon as possible.
In another development, AFC Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi is attracting attention from both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. The 28-year-old defender has expressed a desire to leave the club in 2026, with discussions already taking place with various teams about a potential move. Bournemouth is also exploring replacements, with Nathan Aké from Manchester City reportedly on their radar.
Amidst these movements, Manchester City forward Claudio Echeverri has agreed to a loan deal with Girona until the end of the season. His previous loan at Bayer Leverkusen was cut short due to unmet performance expectations, leaving him to seek renewed opportunities in Spain.
Continued Developments in Player Movement
Other clubs are also active in the transfer market. Arsenal is reportedly interested in Davide Bartesaghi, the AC Milan left-back, who recently signed a contract extension with the Italian club until June 2030. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano appear to be on the verge of agreeing on a contract extension, with negotiations ongoing regarding a potential release clause.
Potential free agent Himad Abdelli from Angers is attracting interest from both Marseille and Lyon, opening the door for a cut-price transfer. Newcastle United, alongside Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, is monitoring Youri Baas, a center-back from Ajax.
Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is also on the radar of clubs such as Roma, Lyon, and Paris FC, who have been briefed on the terms of a possible transfer. Holstein Kiel is showing interest in Jonas Meffert from Hamburger, while Inter Miami is pushing to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis, with the player open to an MLS move.
As the January transfer window approaches, clubs are actively strengthening their squads, and fans can expect a flurry of activity in the coming weeks. With high-profile players like Bakola and Diomande at the center of speculation, the landscape of European football may shift dramatically.
