Scotland’s Railway Achieves Record £202,000 for Poppyscotland
Scotland’s Railway has achieved a remarkable milestone by raising over £202,000 for Poppyscotland in 2025. This figure surpasses last year’s record of £154,344, demonstrating the continued generosity of ScotRail customers, as well as support from ScotRail and Network Rail through gifts-in-kind.
The fundraising campaign this year included significant events such as VE Day on May 8, Armed Forces Day on June 28, and the 2025 Scottish Poppy Appeal. Contributions varied from providing free on-duty travel passes for Poppyscotland staff to offering retail space in stations and collection tins placed at ticket offices. Volunteers played a crucial role at major stations, including Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Haymarket, and Aberdeen.
Community Engagement and Support
Paul McKay, Communications Director at ScotRail, expressed pride in the record total achieved this year. He stated, “We’re incredibly proud to have reached another record total in support of Poppyscotland. This reflects the incredible generosity of our customers and the dedication of our people.”
The commitment to supporting veterans and their families was echoed by Paul Danks, co-lead for the Armed Forces Employee Network at Network Rail Scotland. He noted, “It’s inspiring to see the generosity of passengers and staff making such a difference. Supporting veterans and their families is something we do every day, and we look forward to continuing this partnership.”
Damian Doran-Timson, Corporate Fundraiser for Poppyscotland, highlighted the significant impact of the railway’s support. He remarked, “On behalf of our veterans, Poppyscotland would like to express our gratitude to railway staff and the generous rail users who donate at our appeals.”
Acknowledging the Impact
This successful fundraising effort not only demonstrates the strength of community spirit but also underscores the ongoing commitment of Scotland’s Railway to support those who have served in the armed forces. The funds raised will provide vital assistance to veterans and their families, ensuring they receive the help they need.
The collaboration between Scotland’s Railway and Poppyscotland reflects a strong partnership aimed at making a meaningful difference in the lives of many. The continued support from customers and staff alike shows that when a community comes together, it can achieve extraordinary results.
