Sainsbury’s Investigates Tesco Milk Mix-Up at Coventry Store
Sainsbury’s has initiated an investigation following a significant mishap at one of its stores, where Tesco-branded milk was inadvertently sold to customers. The incident occurred due to a mix-up involving warehouse and shop staff, resulting in the rival chain’s “Fresher for Longer” milk being displayed on shelves.
The confusion began when customers and employees discovered that the Tesco blue-topped milk could not be scanned at the checkout, triggering an error message. It is believed that the mix-up originated at a supplier that provides products to both Sainsbury’s and Tesco. Staff at the Canley store in Coventry inadvertently stocked the shelves with the incorrect product, leading to a brief availability of Tesco milk in a Sainsbury’s store.
One shopper, who utilized a hand scanner, shared their experience online, stating, “Whoops… I told a member of staff. They could not get them off the shelf quickly enough.” The situation was promptly addressed by Sainsbury’s staff, who removed the milk from the shelves and returned it to the supplier.
In a statement to The Sun, a Sainsbury’s representative confirmed the swift action taken: “They were quickly removed and returned to the supplier. We’re working with them to understand what happened and apologise for any confusion this may have caused.”
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. A similar mix-up took place in 2012 in Ely, Cambridgeshire, prompting a light-hearted response from Tesco at that time, stating, “It’s good to see Sainsbury’s has got great taste in milk.”
While the investigation unfolds, Sainsbury’s remains committed to ensuring that such errors do not happen again, reaffirming its dedication to customer service and product quality.
