Woottons U12 Girls Fight Back for Draw Against KLSC FC
The Woottons U12 girls football team secured a valuable point in a thrilling 2-2 draw against KLSC FC U12 Lionesses. The match, held on March 15, 2024, saw both teams showcase their determination and skill, making for an exciting contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
After a scoreless first half, the game took a dramatic turn following the break. The opening 30 minutes were tightly contested, with both sides creating opportunities but failing to find the back of the net. The Woottons relied heavily on their goalkeeper, India Lowry, whose vital saves kept the Lionesses from taking an early lead. Lowry’s composed performance allowed her team to remain level at halftime.
Shortly after the restart, The Woottons took the lead. A precise cross from the right by Thea Elmer found Sofia Cawthorne, who reacted quickly to steer the ball into the net, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage. However, KLSC FC responded promptly, scoring two quick goals that shifted the momentum. By the final stages of the match, The Woottons found themselves trailing 2-1.
Determined not to give up, the home team intensified their efforts in search of an equalizer. In the dying minutes, substitute Florence Bonnett displayed quick thinking, launching a long throw down the flank for Cawthorne to pursue. Cawthorne capitalized on the opportunity, expertly guiding her finish into the side netting to complete her brace and level the match at 2-2.
Late in the game, both teams sought a decisive goal, but neither could create a clear chance before the final whistle. Florence Bonnett was named Player of the Match for her exceptional all-around performance, marked by energy, determination, and composure. Her long throw-in not only set up the late equalizer but highlighted her pivotal role in the match.
This thrilling draw reflects the competitive spirit and talent present in youth football in West Norfolk and Fenland. As the season unfolds, The Woottons will look to build on this result and continue improving their performance on the pitch.
