Tivat Health Centre Urges Women to Prioritize Cervical Cancer Screening

The Tivat Health Centre has emphasized the critical role of early diagnosis and prevention in the fight against cervical cancer, a significant health concern among women. This statement follows the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which took place from January 19 to 25, 2024. During this period, health officials highlighted the importance of regular gynecological examinations and preventive measures to protect women’s health.

Julija Samardzic, a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics at the Tivat Health Centre, underscored that cervical cancer is often linked to long-term infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). Many women are unaware of their risk, as HPV infections frequently present no symptoms until more severe changes occur. This underscores the necessity of routine preventive screenings as a vital health safeguard.

The Tivat Health Centre provides gynecological examinations as part of primary healthcare services, offering consultations and referrals for further diagnostic procedures in line with current medical protocols. The team pays special attention to educating patients about the significance of HPV vaccination, recognized as one of the most effective primary prevention strategies against cervical cancer. In the past year, the centre administered the HPV vaccine to 100 patients aged between 9 and 26 years.

Screening for HPV has been conducted for 287 women at the facility. “Cervical cancer is a disease that can be largely prevented, but only if women undergo regular preventive examinations,” Samardzic noted. She pointed out that there are still instances where patients seek assistance late, limiting their treatment options. “We continuously urge women not to delay their screenings, as timely diagnosis can save lives and preserve health quality,” she added.

The Tivat Health Centre is calling on all women to prioritize regular gynecological check-ups and to promptly consult their chosen gynecologists. Parents are also encouraged to educate themselves on the importance of HPV vaccination and timely protection against HPV infections for their children. “Prevention saves lives. Early screening makes a difference,” emphasized the Tivat Health Centre in its announcement.
