Jasmine Paolini Eyes Skiing After Tennis Career Ends
The Winter Olympics, currently taking place in Italy, has captured the attention of many athletes, including tennis stars. Among them is Italian player Jasmine Paolini, who recently expressed her desire to try skiing once she retires from professional tennis. While attending the Qatar Open, Paolini shared her enthusiasm for the Winter Olympics and the sport she hopes to explore after hanging up her racket.
During her appearance, Paolini acknowledged her lack of skiing experience, saying, “I always say I want to try to ski, but I have never done this before.” Despite her interest, she clarified that she would not pursue skiing while still competing in tennis, citing concerns about potential injuries. She added with a laugh, “I’m going to wait until my retirement to try that, not before, because it’s too dangerous.”
Paolini’s Honor at the Winter Olympics
Paolini played a significant role in the build-up to the Winter Olympics, which is being hosted by Milano-Cortina. She had the privilege of carrying the Olympic flame, an experience she described as an honor. “To carry the Olympic flame was a privilege, and I felt really honored to be part of the journey,” she remarked. Paolini wished the best for the athletes and organizations participating in the Games, noting, “It’s always good to have them at home, and I think it’s a really good thing for our country.”
The Winter Olympics have also drawn attention from other sports figures, including Novak Djokovic, who is currently on a break from tennis after reaching the final of the Australian Open. Djokovic has been spotted enjoying the events in Italy, much to the delight of competing athletes.
Excitement in the Athlete Community
One notable moment occurred for Ilia Malinin, a figure skater from the United States, who recently won gold in the team event. His excitement amplified upon spotting Djokovic in the audience during a pivotal moment of his performance. Malinin recalled, “After I landed my backflip, he was standing there, hands on his head, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s incredible.’”
Djokovic’s presence at the Winter Olympics has not gone unnoticed, as he has also shown support for Canadian skater Ivanie Blondin Nagy. His engagement with the Winter Games highlights the crossover appeal between tennis and winter sports, showcasing the camaraderie among athletes across different disciplines.
As the Winter Olympics unfold, the excitement continues to build, with athletes from various sports sharing their experiences and aspirations. For Jasmine Paolini, the prospect of taking up skiing after her tennis career adds a personal touch to the ongoing celebrations of athletic achievement in Italy.
