SNP Rejects Initiative to Shorten Mandate of Podgorica Assembly
The Socialistic People’s Party (SNP) has announced its decision not to support the proposed initiative aimed at shortening the mandate of the Assembly of the Capital City of Podgorica. This initiative was presented by the European Alliance (EA). In a statement, SNP representative Maša Stevović emphasized that the focus should remain on addressing pressing issues that citizens face.
Stevović pointed out that organizing and conducting extraordinary local elections would require significant budgetary resources. She noted that with comprehensive elections planned for 2027, these additional elections would amount to the fourth round within a five-year period. This raises concerns about the efficiency and financial prudence of holding elections so frequently.
Residents of Podgorica, according to Stevović, do not expect to vote annually but rather seek fulfillment of pre-election promises, stability, progress, and the implementation of various projects. She reinforced that the SNP remains committed to its programmatic principles and will work towards the comprehensive development of Podgorica, aiming to improve the quality of life for all its citizens.
Stevović’s remarks highlight the party’s focus on governance over electoral politics, arguing that the resources could be better allocated to address the immediate needs of the community. The SNP’s stance reflects a broader concern regarding the potential instability that frequent elections could create in local governance and public service delivery.
As the political landscape in Montenegro continues to evolve, the SNP’s position signifies a clear commitment to long-term planning and the prioritization of citizen welfare over political maneuvering.
