A tragic accident on the Ballyrobin Road in Templepatrick, Co Antrim, has resulted in the death of a female driver following a collision with a double decker bus. The incident occurred at approximately 08:00 on February 14, 2024. Emergency services arrived on the scene, but the driver of the black Citroen C1 was pronounced dead at the location.
The bus driver, a man in his sixties, sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening. Authorities have closed the Ballyrobin Road to facilitate an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigation and Appeal for Witnesses
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed the incident through an official statement. Detective Inspector Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit provided further details, noting that officers responded promptly to reports of the crash involving the bus and the Citroen C1.
“Police received a report of a two vehicle collision,” said DI Stewart. “Officers attended alongside emergency services partners; however, the driver of the Citroen was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the bus was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.”
The PSNI is actively seeking witnesses to the incident. They encourage anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact the Collision Investigation Unit, referencing case number 341 14/02/26.
Impact on Local Traffic and Services
The closure of the Ballyrobin Road has implications for local traffic, particularly for individuals commuting to Belfast International Airport. Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys due to the disruption. Several bus services operated by Translink to and from the airport have also been cancelled as a result of the incident.
The local community has expressed its sorrow over the unfortunate events on social media. One user wrote, “Thoughts with the lady’s family who passed away,” while another remarked, “So sad. Thinking of the person’s family at this very sad time.”
Authorities continue to investigate this tragic collision, and the PSNI remains committed to uncovering the details behind this fatal incident.
