A new sleeper train has been launched to enhance the skiing experience for enthusiasts traveling to the French Alps. The Travelski Night Express, a collaboration between Compagnie des Alpes‘ subsidiary Travelski and Pegasus Trains, connects Paris to Bourg-Saint-Maurice in just eight hours. This service, which began operations on December 19, aims to facilitate access to the renowned ski resorts of Savoie, allowing holidaymakers to maximize their time on the slopes.

The sleeper train operates from December 19 to March 20, with a total of 14 round-trip departures scheduled. Passengers can board the train every Friday evening at 10:52 PM from Paris Gare de Lyon, arriving at their destination just after 8 AM the following morning. From there, skiers are directly transported to popular resorts including La Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes, Méribel, Val d’Isère, Les Ménuires, Val Thorens, and Courchevel.

This new travel option not only extends the skiing holiday to a full eight days—compared to the traditional six-day trips—but also allows travelers to enjoy quieter slopes and potentially lower lift pass prices during the notorious changeover days. According to The Telegraph, this extended schedule enhances the overall skiing experience.

On board, the train features 660 berths, designed as couchettes for six passengers in triple bunks. Each berth is equipped with electrical outlets, comforters, and pillows to ensure a comfortable journey. A bar-restaurant car offers a selection of affordable meals, such as tartiflette and sausage and mash for approximately €10.50 (£9.13), alongside reasonably priced beer and wine.

To ensure safety and comfort, specific spaces are allocated for women traveling alone, in addition to private cabins. The Travelski Night Express is part of an all-inclusive package that includes transport, transfers, accommodation, ski passes, and optional rental equipment, typically priced around €800 (£695). Travelers seeking more flexibility can purchase a one-way train ticket for as little as €80 (£70), or €60 per person (£52) if they book an entire cabin.

For those in the UK wishing to connect to this service, booking a Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris provides a seamless travel experience to the Alps. The introduction of the Travelski Night Express represents a significant step in promoting sustainable travel while catering to the needs of ski enthusiasts.
