UK Launches Charter Flight Booking Portal for Stranded Citizens
The UK Foreign Office has introduced a booking portal for British nationals seeking seats on charter flights from the Middle East. This initiative comes in response to widespread airspace closures following a joint US-Israeli military operation against Iran, which has left thousands of British citizens stranded in locations like Dubai.
Officials stated that they will reach out to those who registered as being in the region, prioritizing the most vulnerable individuals. A commercial flight is scheduled to depart from the United Arab Emirates early next week, depending on the situation on the ground. Passengers should note that there will be a charge for this flight.
On Sunday, March 8, a government charter flight is expected to leave from Muscat, Oman, aimed at facilitating the return of Britons. According to the Foreign Office, over 160,000 British citizens have indicated their presence in the region.
As the situation unfolds, Iran has continued its military actions in the Gulf. Reports indicate that one individual was killed when debris from an aerial interception fell onto a vehicle in Dubai. Since the onset of the US-Israeli offensive on February 28, at least three additional fatalities have been attributed to missile debris in the city. Victims identified by local authorities include individuals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
The United Arab Emirates has advised residents to stay indoors as its military responds to drone attacks. In Kuwait, authorities reported that drones targeted critical infrastructure, including fuel tanks at Kuwait International Airport and a government building in Kuwait City.
In neighboring Iraq, at least two people were killed due to strikes in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region. Saudi Arabia confirmed the destruction of a drone aimed at its Shaybah oil field and reported the interception of four drones over Riyadh, including one that targeted the diplomatic quarter. In Bahrain, missile fragments fell onto a road in Manama, injuring one person and damaging several shops.
The developments in the region are evolving rapidly, and British nationals are encouraged to stay informed through official channels as evacuation efforts continue.
