Nottinghamshire Secures £400,000 for Major Football Facility Upgrades

Part of Nottinghamshire is set to benefit significantly from enhanced football facilities, thanks to a substantial funding initiative. The Rushcliffe Borough Council has announced a commitment of £400,000 aimed at developing high-quality sporting infrastructure. This funding will facilitate the creation of new artificial turf football pitches, known as 3G pitches, alongside necessary upgrades to changing rooms and pavilions.

The initiative aligns with the Football Association’s Local Football Facility Plan (LFFP), which highlights eight priority projects identified for their strategic importance to local football and community sports. Sites associated with these projects will be eligible to apply for the new funding starting on April 1, 2025. Proposed beneficiaries include locations such as Bingham, Cotgrave, East Leake, Keyworth, Radcliffe on Trent, Ruddington, and West Bridgford.

The council anticipates that this funding will lead to the unlocking of new facilities, improved access to grassroots football, and sustained support for local sports in response to the growing demand tied to population increase.

Councillor Jonathan Wheeler, the cabinet portfolio holder for leisure and wellbeing, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This funding will help us deliver strategic projects that strengthen local facilities and benefit communities across the Borough.” He pointed out that participation in football continues to rise in Rushcliffe, creating a demand for more pitches.

New 3G surfaces equipped with floodlighting will provide reliable, year-round usage, a notable improvement over traditional natural grass pitches, which can be adversely affected by inclement weather or overuse. This grant represents a crucial step in maintaining high-quality sports facilities across the borough, supporting healthier, safer, and more connected communities.

The funding initiative not only aims to enhance local sports infrastructure but also reflects the council’s commitment to fostering a vibrant sporting culture in the region. As the demand for football facilities grows, the upgrades funded by the Rushcliffe Borough Council are expected to play a pivotal role in meeting community needs for years to come.
