Schumacher Optimistic About Squad Reinforcements Ahead of Season

Bolton Wanderers’ manager Steven Schumacher expressed optimism regarding the potential for reinforcements to his squad following the recent transfers of George Thomason and Aaron Collins. The club has reportedly earned close to £2 million from these high-profile departures, providing Schumacher with resources to strengthen his team as the new League One season approaches.

With the season starting in just over a week, the pressure is mounting to finalize new signings. Although Schumacher has worked to balance the squad he inherited from former manager Ian Evatt, an injury to new signing Sam Dalby has left the team short on experienced strikers. Schumacher, who has been active in the transfer market through sporting director Fergal Harkin, has also received interest in other players. However, reports regarding Bolton’s pursuit of Will Keane from Preston North End appear to be inaccurate.

In a statement to The Bolton News, Schumacher acknowledged the urgency of bringing in new talent while emphasizing the need for careful decision-making. “In my opinion, we’ve done some good business over the summer,” he noted. “We’ve got a really good fee for Aaron Collins and a good fee for George Thomason that we think we can use to strengthen the team in certain departments. So there’s money there for us to bring people in.”

As Thomason moves to Wrexham, completing his transfer earlier this week, Bolton now faces the challenge of finding a replacement in midfield. The club has been linked with Ethan Erhahon from Lincoln City and former player Luca Connell, who is also attracting interest from Wycombe Wanderers.

Following a recent 5-2 victory over Shrewsbury Town, Schumacher confirmed that Thomason’s departure does grant him the opportunity to add another midfielder to the squad. “We wish George all the best,” he stated. “He’s a top lad, a top professional and deserves his opportunity in the Championship. I hope he goes and does really well. Yes, we’ll be working hard to replace him.”
