Sally Dynevor Confirms Commitment to Coronation Street Amid Changes

Sally Dynevor, a prominent figure in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street, has addressed speculation regarding her future on the show. This comes in light of significant changes within the cast, including the recent departures of two of her long-term co-stars. The 62-year-old actress, who has portrayed the character Sally Webster since 1986, expressed her desire to continue working on the series as she approaches a remarkable milestone.
Dynevor’s character, Sally Webster, first appeared when Kevin Webster, played by Michael Le Vell, accidentally splashed her while driving his van. Over the years, Sally has navigated a complex love life on-screen, marrying Kevin and later having two daughters, Rosie and Sophie. Recently, Sally has been involved in a new storyline where she and her partner, Tim Metcalfe, portrayed by Joe Duttine, have taken on the responsibility of caring for the young children of their friends Louise and Mick Michaelis after the couple faced legal troubles.
“Her own girls have grown up and gone, and this is a new chapter in her life,” Dynevor remarked, referring to her character’s fostering responsibilities. She added, “Although it’s hard, she’s really enjoying it.”
In recent years, Dynevor has reduced her filming schedule, allowing her to pursue other opportunities. Last year, she joined the panel of Loose Women alongside co-star Sue Cleaver, further diversifying her work with ITV. As she approaches her 40th anniversary with Coronation Street in 2026, the actress confirmed she has no plans for retirement.
“I’m not a retiring person,” she stated. “I’ve got such a lovely routine now. I want to keep working; it’s good for my brain. So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s.” Dynevor expressed her gratitude for the role, stating, “It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years.”
Earlier this year, Cleaver announced her exit from the show after 25 years, stating, “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street. The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change.” Additionally, in 2024, Helen Worth, who played Gail Platt, stepped away from the series after an impressive 50 years.
The enduring legacy of Coronation Street continues to evolve with its cast, yet Dynevor remains committed to her role. The show airs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 20:00 on ITV1 and is also available for streaming on ITVX. As the narrative progresses, fans can look forward to seeing how Sally Webster navigates her new responsibilities while continuing to be a staple of Weatherfield.
