Manchester City Fans Criticize Club’s Latest Kit Design
Manchester City fans have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the club’s latest kit, branding it potentially the worst in Premier League history. The club unveiled their third kit for the 2025/26 season on Thursday morning, and reactions have been swift and negative.
The new kit features a distinctive grey color with green trim and an unusual raindrop design, officially titled “Cool Weather/Pro Green.” According to the kit manufacturer, Puma, the design is intended to pay homage to the culture and weather of Manchester. Despite these intentions, many supporters have taken to social media to voice their discontent.
One fan remarked, “This might just end up being the most terrible kit in the history of the Prem.” Another suggested, “Can you unrelease it please?” These comments reflect a broader sentiment among fans, who have deemed the design “hideous” and “horrendous.” The social media backlash highlights a growing disconnect between the club’s marketing strategy and its supporters’ preferences.
The kit is priced at up to £130 for an authentic version, while standard and long-sleeve options are priced at £85 and £90, respectively. The club’s commercial team and Puma likely anticipated significant sales given the kit’s launch coincides with a record-breaking sponsorship deal worth £1 billion—marking the largest in Premier League history. This partnership surpasses Real Madrid’s £950 million contract with Adidas.
As the season begins, Manchester City will kick off against Wolves on March 16, 2024. Under the leadership of manager Pep Guardiola, the team aims to reclaim their Premier League title after finishing third last season. The club has made substantial summer investments, adding six new players including Tijjani Reinjders and Rayan Cherki.
In the backdrop of the kit controversy, reports suggest that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma may soon join City after being sidelined by Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, though the club has played down these rumors.
As Manchester City prepares for its season opener, both fans and the club will be watching closely to see how this kit controversy unfolds amidst their ambitious plans for success.
