Queen Camilla Touched by War Veteran’s Salute at VJ Day Ceremony

A poignant moment unfolded during the 80th anniversary of VJ Day at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire, where Queen Camilla was visibly moved to tears by a salute from Yavar Abbas, a 105-year-old war veteran. As the veteran honored King Charles III, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, the emotional exchange highlighted the deep respect for the sacrifices made during World War II.
The ceremony, held on August 15, 2025, saw Charles, aged 76, and Camilla, aged 78, joined by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, veterans, and their families under the bright sunshine. Dressed in the Stone Field Marshal Number 4 uniform, the King laid a wreath at the Armed Forces Memorial, while the Queen placed a posy in tribute. Their presence underscored the significance of the day, which commemorates the end of the war in the Pacific.
The emotional atmosphere was heightened when Yavar Abbas, who served in the military, addressed the King with the words “my brave King,” acknowledging his presence despite health challenges. This heartfelt salute elicited tears from Camilla, reflecting the profound bond between the monarchy and those who have served their country.
Earlier, Charles delivered a powerful tribute in a pre-recorded address from Clarence House. He praised the “courage and camaraderie” of those who fought in the Pacific and Far East, emphasizing the importance of remembering their sacrifices.
The remembrance service included a two-minute silence, allowing attendees to reflect on the significant contributions of veterans. The event served as a reminder of the enduring legacy of those who fought for peace and freedom.
As the ceremony concluded, the emotional impact of the day resonated with all present, reinforcing the connection between the royal family and the nation’s history. Photos from the service capture the solemnity and respect shown for the heroes of the past, celebrating their bravery and dedication.
