Stacey Dooley Discusses Life Changes and New Series Launch

Television presenter Stacey Dooley has shared insights into how motherhood has influenced her perspective as she prepares for the sixth series of her popular show, Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over. The series, which explores the lives of extraordinary individuals, returns this March 2024, bringing with it fresh stories and unique experiences.
Motherhood Shapes Dooley’s Perspective
Dooley, who has a two-year-old daughter named Minnie with her partner Kevin Clifton, acknowledges that becoming a parent has likely altered her approach to the show. “I’m sure it probably has,” she quipped, “you’d have to ask my director.” She elaborated that her new role as a mother prompts her to think about how she would react in various situations while interacting with parents featured in the series.
Reflecting on the show’s success, Dooley expressed amazement at reaching its sixth series, stating, “I can’t quite believe we’re on our sixth series, that does feel wild, but brilliant.” She attributes this achievement to the affection viewers have for the program, highlighting its intimate format, which allows her to connect deeply with her guests.
Exploring Diverse Lives
The new series opens with an episode featuring Lily Phillips, a well-known adult content creator. Dooley anticipated an adventurous weekend, stating, “I knew obviously Lily Phillips was going to be an adventurous weekend, and I leaned into that.” She enjoys producing episodes that transport her far from her everyday life, allowing her to delve into vastly different experiences.
Beyond the surface, Dooley discovered unexpected depth in Phillips’ character. “She was good company, very accommodating, and there’s a real sweetness to her that I don’t think is immediately obvious,” she noted, highlighting a different side of Phillips that contrasts with her public persona.
Following her time with Phillips in London, Dooley traveled to Essex to meet Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, the first gay man in Britain to be legally recognized as a father. Dooley described the luxurious atmosphere of Drewitt-Barlow’s home, stating, “I felt like I was in a resort in Marbella, honestly!” Her stay included interactions with his entire family, emphasizing the warmth and hospitality she encountered.
Dooley’s journey concludes in Birmingham, where she spends three days with Marie Buchan, often referred to as the “Benefits Queen” by the media. She expressed a desire for viewers to recognize the complexities of Buchan’s life, stating, “Spending time with her was really worthwhile. I hope people see a different side to her.” This experience further illustrates the multifaceted narratives the show aims to present.
Filming this three-part reality series offers Dooley a break from her routine, although it poses emotional challenges as well. “The first night is heaven because you get a bit of peace,” she explained, adding, “Then the second and third night you start missing home.” Despite these hurdles, she finds joy in the viewer engagement the series generates.
Dooley noted the positive reception of the show, citing interactions with viewers who mention specific episodes. “It’s always a joy,” she remarked, expressing her delight that the series continues to resonate with audiences. As for the future of the show, Dooley enthusiastically affirmed her readiness for another season, stating, “Of course, is the Pope a Catholic? Do we want more Sleeps Over… Yes!”
With its unique premise and emotional depth, Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over remains a beloved fixture on television, highlighting the diverse lives of its guests while reflecting the evolving perspective of its host.
