Ex-West End performer and acclaimed singing coach Jamie Read is celebrating two decades of empowering singers in Thatcham. Since launching his one-to-one singing lessons in September 2005, Jamie has transformed the lives of many, ranging from local talent to renowned artists.

Initially starting with a small group of students, Jamie’s coaching has since attracted hundreds of clients, including recording artists, award-winning performers from the West End, and television celebrities. His impressive career includes performances alongside legends such as Judi Dench and Brian Blessed, which adds to his credibility as a coach.

The impact of Jamie’s work is evident in his students’ journeys. “I never imagined when I started out that I would have well-known performers travelling from London out to little old Thatcham to come and work with me!” Jamie shared. His teaching experience extends to prestigious institutions like the Italia Conti Academy, where he has guided talents such as Layton Williams and Sam Tutty.

Celebrating Two Decades of Vocal Coaching

Over the past 20 years, Jamie has found joy in helping individuals discover their vocal potential. “The last 20 years have given me the chance to help hundreds and hundreds of people own their voice, which is a joy and a privilege,” he remarked. His enthusiasm shines through when he describes the transformative moments he witnesses in his studio. “That moment when someone sings a note they didn’t think they could, or steps into their power and lets go of the inhibitions and fear that are holding them back… it’s just magic, every time.”

Currently based in the historic Old Bluecoat School, Jamie emphasizes the unique charm of his studio, which provides an inspiring environment for singers. His commitment to vocal coaching includes not only individual lessons but also leading a Musical Theatre Choir. Recently, he conducted this choir during several dates on Gareth Malone’s UK tour, further showcasing his dedication to fostering musical talent.

Jamie Read’s journey reflects a profound commitment to the art of singing and the personal growth of his students. As he marks this significant milestone, his influence continues to resonate within the Thatcham community and beyond.
