Onana Set to Start as Manchester United Faces Fulham Challenge
Manchester United aims to secure a vital win against Fulham this Sunday afternoon at Craven Cottage, with goalkeeper Andre Onana potentially returning to the starting lineup. Following a disappointing loss to Arsenal in their opening Premier League match, the team is looking to bounce back and build on their encouraging performance.
Onana, who was absent from the matchday squad against Arsenal, did not participate in any pre-season matches. His return comes after Altay Bayindir made a critical error that resulted in Arsenal scoring the only goal of the game. United head coach Ruben Amorim provided an update on the team’s condition during a press conference on Friday, confirming that Onana could be reinstated as the first-choice goalkeeper.
Team News Ahead of Fulham Clash
Amorim stated, “Onana is ready to play, like last week. So we will see in the game who is going to be the goalkeeper.” While Onana’s potential return is a relief for the team, the coach confirmed that defenders Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez will miss the match due to injury. “Licha is out, Nous is out. Everyone else is fit and ready to play,” Amorim added.
In addition to Onana’s situation, Benjamin Sesko hopes to earn his first start for United after coming on as a substitute against Arsenal. The young striker’s performance could be crucial as the team seeks to establish a stronger attacking presence.
Defensive Strategies Under Scrutiny
Amorim also addressed the need for improvement in set-pieces, particularly after Arsenal capitalized on a defensive lapse. He emphasized that the team must not only protect their own goal but also effectively challenge Fulham during corner kicks. “We need to try to analyse the opponent and put the best set-up to protect the goalie at set-pieces,” he remarked. “We are not going to change that because of the last goal. We need to do the same to the opponent.”
As Manchester United prepares for this crucial fixture, the anticipation builds among fans. The team is eager to turn the tide after their initial setback and demonstrate their potential on the pitch. With Onana possibly returning to form and a focus on both offensive and defensive strategies, United aims to leave Craven Cottage with three points and renewed momentum in the Premier League season.
