Gregg Wallace Launches Legal Action Against BBC Over Misconduct

Gregg Wallace, the former presenter of the popular cooking show MasterChef, has initiated legal proceedings against the BBC. This move follows a six-month investigation that resulted in his dismissal from the broadcaster in July 2023 for “inappropriate language.” Wallace, 60, is reportedly suing the BBC over issues related to data protection, although specific details regarding the claim remain undisclosed.

Documents submitted to the High Court indicate that Wallace is requesting access to more than 200 internal documents. These documents may serve as evidence in a potential disability discrimination claim linked to lost earnings, with Wallace asserting that the BBC did not adequately accommodate his autism. Critics have noted the irony in his situation, given that he was previously found guilty of multiple allegations of misconduct, including making inappropriate and sexually explicit comments.

The investigation that led to his dismissal upheld 45 allegations of misconduct. Among these were claims of unwanted physical contact and being found in a “state of undress” on three occasions. Additionally, findings included substantiated allegations of bullying and culturally insensitive remarks.

Despite the serious nature of these allegations, Wallace appears determined to clear his name. A spokesperson for the BBC stated that they have not yet been formally notified of any legal proceedings related to Wallace’s lawsuit.
