Apple Gears Up for Major iPhone Sales Boost Amid Foldable Rumors
Apple is preparing its supply chain for a significant surge in iPhone sales next year, potentially linked to the anticipated introduction of the foldable iPhone. The tech giant has directed suppliers to get ready for demand that could reach as high as 95 million units for the upcoming iPhone 18 series. This represents an increase of 10 million units compared to the 85 million units allocated for the iPhone 17 series released in 2025.
The sales boost appears primarily focused on the standard models of the iPhone 18 lineup, which will include the iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the new iPhone Air 2. The inclusion of the iPhone Fold has stirred considerable speculation about its impact on overall sales.
Speculations Surrounding the iPhone Fold
While a report by Nikkei did not explicitly state that the iPhone Fold is the primary reason for the increased sales forecast, industry insiders suggest that its release could create a “halo effect.” This phenomenon refers to the potential for increased sales across the iPhone lineup due to heightened consumer interest in the foldable model. Should the iPhone Fold debut alongside the iPhone 18, it could draw attention to other models, thereby boosting sales.
Before the official confirmation of the iPhone Air earlier this month, there were indications that it would serve as a precursor to the foldable device. The iPhone Air is anticipated to set the stage for a two-part foldable iPhone, possibly combining two thinner devices with a hinge mechanism to create a larger display.
Apple’s design philosophy has historically leaned towards sturdier models compared to rivals, and many consumers have fond memories of the iPhone 6s, which was considered one of the slimmest iterations in Apple’s lineup. The current design of the iPhone Air is seen as crucial for the development of the iPhone Fold, as it may lead to innovations that allow for a more compact and functional foldable device.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The iPhone Fold is rumored to be slated for release shortly after the iPhone Air, which is expected to be unveiled at an event tied to the iPhone 17 series this coming September 2024. With the foldable phone market rapidly evolving, Apple’s entry into this space would mark a significant shift in its product offerings, potentially attracting a new segment of consumers eager for innovative technology.
As the launch dates approach, the tech community remains keenly interested in how these developments will unfold and what they will mean for Apple’s market position in the competitive smartphone sector. The anticipation surrounding the iPhone Fold, combined with Apple’s robust sales projections, underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of smartphone technology.
