Canadian Father Fatally Shot After Celebrating Hole-in-One in Wisconsin
A young father from Ontario, Canada, was tragically shot and killed on March 26, 2024, during a trip to the United States. Giovanni Michael Robinson, known as Mike, had just celebrated his first hole-in-one at the esteemed Whistling Straits golf course when the incident occurred. The shooting took place in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, as Robinson was walking back to his hotel from a celebratory dinner.
Robinson, aged 32, was on a golf trip with friends, according to his brother, Jacob Robinson. It remains unclear whether anyone was with him at the time of the shooting. The Sheboygan Falls Police Department reported that officers arrived shortly after midnight and attempted life-saving measures, but Robinson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Jacob Robinson recounted a phone call with his brother just hours before the shooting. “He called to let me know he got his first hole-in-one,” Jacob said. “That phone call is just playing in my head. It’s one of the last joyous phone calls that I’ll ever get to share with my best friend.” The call included a FaceTime session with Robinson’s newborn daughter, Farrah, who is just six weeks old.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Police have not yet identified any suspects or motives but believe the vehicle involved was a “small, dark-colored SUV.” They are urging the public to provide any information that may lead to an arrest.
In a heartfelt message, Robinson’s family described him as a “beautiful soul” and a “true family man” with a deep passion for hockey. A GoFundMe page set up in his memory reflects the family’s grief, stating, “Mike was a lot of things and held a lot of titles. Husband, Son, Brother, Nephew, Cousin, and friend. Mike’s most prized title yet … ‘FATHER.’”
Robinson’s wife, Rachel, and their daughter were central to his life. His family shared that he fully embraced fatherhood, describing him as a natural parent. “It is the most heartbreaking to know he will never be able to hold his baby girl again,” they expressed.
The impact of Robinson’s death has been felt profoundly not only by his family but also by the close-knit community of Sheboygan Falls, which has a population of approximately 8,200. Local resident Jill Schuessler voiced her shock at the incident, stating, “This is a small little community and we’re all really close. This is not our community.” Another resident, Caitlin Brotz-McNitt, echoed these sentiments on social media, emphasizing that such violence is not characteristic of their town.
According to a LinkedIn profile that appears to belong to Robinson, he was residing in New Jersey and employed by an indoor golf simulator company. His untimely death has left a void not only in his family’s lives but also in the hearts of those who knew him, as they mourn the loss of a person described as “one-of-a-kind” and “an incredible, incredible person.”
As the investigation continues, the community and Robinson’s family await answers, hoping for justice in the wake of this senseless tragedy.
