Tributes Flow for Beloved Middlesbrough Butcher Danny McCluskey
The Middlesbrough community is mourning the loss of Danny McCluskey, a well-respected butcher known for his warm personality and dedication to the trade. The owner of Danny’s Family Butchers in the Dundas Shopping Centre, McCluskey passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many in the area. He retired in 2020 at the age of 70, selling his business to the father-and-son team of Colin and Craig Mackenzie.

According to David Harris, who manages the Dundas Centre, the news of McCluskey’s passing has left a profound impact on both staff and customers. Harris described him as one of the “greats” in the community, stating, “He was here for years and years, lots of the people who shop here remember him.” He added that McCluskey was an integral part of the Indoor Market, contributing significantly to its atmosphere and success.
McCluskey was known not just for his quality products but also for the relationships he built over decades of service. Many customers fondly recall their experiences with him, describing him as a “true gentleman” who always brightened their day. His dedication to his craft and his customers made him a beloved figure in Middlesbrough.
A Community’s Grief and Remembrance
Following McCluskey’s death, tributes have surged on the Dundas Centre’s Facebook page. Customers and colleagues alike have shared heartfelt messages reflecting on his kindness and the joy he brought to their lives. One tribute reads: “So, so sad Danny was one of Boro’s best butchers. He was a true gentleman thinking of all Danny’s family at this sad time. Sleep tight, Danny xxx.” Another expressed disbelief, stating, “Still can’t believe you’ve gone, I’m absolutely devastated you were one of the best, rest easy, Danny.”
Family members of McCluskey have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, saying, “Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to comment their condolences and share their memories of our beloved Danny. We are absolutely devastated as a family at losing him, and reading through all these wonderful comments has truly brought great comfort to us at this heartbreaking time.”
McCluskey’s legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he so lovingly served. His contributions to the local butcher trade and his unwavering kindness have left an indelible mark on Middlesbrough.
