AI Studio Wonder Secures $12 Million Seed Funding to Innovate Filmmaking
Wonder, an AI-powered creative studio, has successfully secured $12 million in seed funding, with the investment led by the London-based venture capital firm Atomico. Founded in 2025, Wonder has quickly gained traction in the film industry, partnering with renowned filmmakers, including Danny Boyle, director of the acclaimed film 28 Days Later. The latest funding round also saw contributions from existing investors such as LocalGlobe and Blackbird.
The company was established by Justin Hackney, a BAFTA-winning filmmaker and former creative director at ElevenLabs, and Xavier Collins, who is the founding partner of Lumiere Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in acquiring intellectual property rights from action films. The backing from notable figures in the industry, including Mati Staniszewski, co-founder of ElevenLabs, underscores the confidence in Wonder’s innovative approach to filmmaking.
Innovative Production Model and Creative Projects
Wonder generates revenue by charging a service fee to producers and companies seeking to outsource production tasks. Their services encompass a variety of formats, including short films, branded content, and trailers. This model allows them to tap into a growing market that seeks efficient and creative solutions in content production.
In July, Wonder launched an ambitious project featuring a series of 10 short films, each directed by different filmmakers. The films explore complex themes such as consciousness and simulation, showcasing the studio’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries. More recently, Wonder expanded its portfolio by producing the music video for Lewis Capaldi‘s song “Something in the Heavens,” further demonstrating its versatility in the entertainment space.
Ben Blume, a partner at Atomico, praised the leadership of Hackney and Collins, highlighting their unique combination of marketplace experience, community building, and technical expertise. “Xavier and Justin have the rare combination of marketplace and community building experience, creative brilliance and technical execution capability needed to create the entertainment studio for the next generation,” he stated. “Their incredible traction validates that the market is ready for their unique approach.”
As Wonder continues to grow, it appears well-positioned to disrupt traditional filmmaking paradigms by leveraging artificial intelligence and innovative production methods. The backing from influential investors and successful collaborations with established filmmakers suggest a promising future for the company in an ever-evolving entertainment landscape.
