Luxury Beach Development Linked to Andrew’s Son-in-Law Enters Administration
A luxury beach development in Australia, associated with the son-in-law of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has entered administration, leaving behind a substantial financial burden. The project, part of a £125 million seaside skyscraper on the Gold Coast, was backed by Rory O’Brien and his development firm, Masthead. The firm now owes investors approximately £10 million.
The development, which promised prime ocean-front apartments, has been fenced off, with notices declaring “Mortgagee in Possession” now visible at the site. The troubles began for the ambitious project, which was initiated in 2022, when the company behind it could no longer sustain operations.
Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who is married to Princess Beatrice, had been appointed to provide interior design services through his company, Banda. The partnership was initially celebrated; Mozzi stated, “Masthead has all the ingredients we were looking for.” His firm completed its role on the ambitious project by March 2023.
The connection between the couple, Princess Beatrice and Mozzi, began in September 2018. Friends noted their immediate chemistry, and they quickly became part of each other’s social circles. Their wedding in 2020 at Windsor Castle was an intimate affair, attended by just 20 guests, including notable family members such as the late Queen and Prince Philip.
This setback for Mozzi’s business raises questions about the future of the prime beachfront development and its financial implications for all parties involved. The luxury market on the Gold Coast is known for its exclusivity and high-stakes investments, making this administration a significant event in the area’s real estate landscape.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders will be closely monitoring the ramifications for both the development project and Mozzi’s business ventures.
