Anthony Anderson Responds to Viral Controversial Comments to Lohan
Actor and comedian Anthony Anderson has addressed the backlash following the resurfacing of a 2003 interview with then-17-year-old Lindsay Lohan. The clip, from The Sharon Osbourne Show, gained significant attention online this week, prompting discussions about its appropriateness.
In the interview, Anderson, who was 33 at the time, made a series of comments that many viewers now find uncomfortable. He was speaking with Lohan about her recent move in with fellow Disney star Raven-Symoné when he asked, “What gentlemen will be at the new pad with you and Raven-Symoné?” Lohan, emphasizing her single status, responded, “No one.”
Anderson then remarked that Lohan was “single but looking,” to which she responded by raising her hand and clarifying, “But I’m illegal for people that are old.” The tone of the conversation escalated when Anderson replied, “Well, you know, some men like them young,” adding, “We ain’t gonna mention no names, but, you know, I’m one of them.”
Anderson’s Response to Criticism
Following the clip’s resurgence, many have criticized the interview style as inappropriate, particularly given Lohan’s age at the time. In response, a representative for Anderson stated, “This interview was clearly intended as comedy. He regrets if the humor was in poor taste and maintains the utmost respect for Lindsay. Any implication to the contrary is both inaccurate and potentially defamatory.”
Anderson also shared compliments about Lohan’s performance in the 1998 film The Parent Trap, mentioning that both he and his children enjoyed her work. He concluded the segment by commenting on how much Lohan had grown since the film, while placing his hand on her knee.
As the clip continued to circulate, it sparked discussions about the treatment of young women in the entertainment industry and the lasting impact of such interviews. Lohan, who is currently promoting her upcoming film Freakier Friday, has yet to publicly respond to the resurfaced interview. The sequel features her alongside Jamie Lee Curtis.
Anderson has faced accusations of sexual assault on three separate occasions, though he has denied the allegations and has not been charged. The resurfacing of this interview adds another layer to ongoing conversations about accountability in Hollywood.
As the discourse around the clip develops, it highlights the complexities of celebrity culture and the evolving standards of what is considered acceptable in media interviews.
