George Gilbert Removed from Big Brother House After Controversial Remarks
Braintree native and reality television contestant George Gilbert was officially removed from the Big Brother house on March 15, 2024, following an incident involving inappropriate language. The 23-year-old’s ejection has raised questions among viewers about the remarks that led to his departure, which were not aired during the live broadcast. According to ITV, Gilbert had received multiple warnings for his conduct throughout the show, but most of the remarks were deemed too offensive to be shown.
Gilbert’s brief appearance in the latest episode did not include the controversial comments. Reports from The Daily Record indicate that his exit and the reactions of his fellow contestants have yet to be revealed. The Sun reported that he left his housemates shocked and was swiftly called into the Diary Room before being expelled.
Gilbert Addresses His Ejection
In response to his removal, Gilbert issued a statement asserting his commitment to free speech. He stated, “As a flag bearer of freedom of speech, I never hesitate to discuss and question any topic regardless of how contentious it may be. Sadly, the boundaries of what is deemed offensive are subjective and I evidently went too far this time by crossing their line one too many times.” He expressed regret that the discussion could not continue and concluded with a reference to his controversial status.
Prior to entering the Big Brother house, all contestants, including Gilbert, underwent comprehensive briefings on the rules governing language and conduct. These sessions emphasized respect, dignity, and inclusion. Gilbert had been scheduled to face eviction during the upcoming episode, but his removal means that the eviction will proceed without him.
Previous Warnings and Other Incidents
Earlier in the week, Gilbert received a formal warning for inappropriate language after an incident during a game of Truth or Dare, where he mimicked fellow housemate Sam. In the Diary Room, Big Brother confronted him, stating: “At 11:26, during a game of Truth or Dare, you said the following, ‘Sam, um too…’, and proceeded to mimic Sam in a manner that could be considered offensive.” Gilbert acknowledged that he had apologized to Sam following the remarks.
Despite this apology, Gilbert’s subsequent behavior led to further complaints and ultimately his removal from the programme. ITV confirmed, “Following repeated use of unacceptable language and behaviour, George has been removed from the Big Brother House with immediate effect and will no longer participate in the programme.”
Gilbert was not the only contestant to face scrutiny this week. Housemate Caroline also received a formal warning for making a transphobic comment towards another contestant, Zelah. Following an exchange about attractiveness, she expressed regret for her remarks, which led to her being summoned to the Diary Room.
The latest episode of Big Brother continues tonight at 21:00 on ITV2 and ITVX, promising to address the fallout from these incidents.
