Netflix Unveils Trailer for “Monster: The Ed Gein Story”
Netflix has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated third season of the Monster anthology series, created by Ryan Murphy. This installment, titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story, features Charlie Hunnam in the role of notorious serial killer Ed Gein, whose gruesome actions in 1950s Wisconsin would leave a lasting impact on horror culture.
A Chilling Narrative of Isolation and Obsession
Set against the bleak backdrop of rural Wisconsin, the story delves into the life of Gein, a seemingly mild-mannered recluse living on a dilapidated farm. Beneath this unassuming exterior lies a disturbing reality—a “house of horrors” that redefined the concept of the American nightmare. Isolated and psychologically troubled, Gein’s twisted obsession with his mother led him to commit heinous crimes that would inspire a wave of fictional monsters in film.
Gein’s legacy is felt across the horror genre. His actions not only resulted in multiple murders during the 1940s and 1950s but also included the exhumation of corpses from local graveyards. Disturbingly, he crafted clothing and household items from the remains, establishing a macabre connection to characters like Norman Bates in Psycho, Leatherface in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.
Star-Studded Cast and Release Date
Joining Hunnam in the cast are Laurie Metcalf as Augusta Gein, Ed’s mother, Tom Hollander portraying filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma Reville. This season promises to explore the psychological depth of its characters while shedding light on the real-life horror that inspired them.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story follows the successful first two seasons of the anthology. The inaugural season featured Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, while the second focused on the infamous Menendez brothers. With its gripping narratives and intricate character studies, the series has garnered significant attention from audiences and critics alike.
Fans can look forward to the premiere on October 3, 2023, as Netflix continues to explore the darker facets of humanity through this chilling anthology series.
