Man Urges Rockstar to Grant Terminally Ill Relative Early Access to GTA 6
A heartfelt appeal has emerged from a man seeking to give his terminally ill family member a chance to experience the highly anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), before its official release. Anthony Armstrong, a User Interface Integrator at Ubisoft Toronto, took to LinkedIn to request Rockstar Games’ assistance in arranging a playtest for his relative, a devoted fan of the franchise, who has been battling cancer for several years.
The distressing situation prompted Armstrong to reach out to contacts at both Rockstar Games and Rockstar Toronto, as his family member has received a prognosis of only 6 to 12 months to live. In his now-deleted post, Armstrong explained the urgency of the request, noting that his relative lives near Rockstar’s studio in Oakville, Canada.
In the post, Armstrong expressed his understanding of the confidentiality surrounding the game’s development, indicating that he would accept a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) if necessary. The request quickly gained traction online after screenshots of his post circulated beyond LinkedIn.
Shortly after the initial post, Armstrong provided an update, stating that he had received a response from Rockstar. He wrote, “Final Update: We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.” While the specifics of the “great news” remain undisclosed, it is presumed to align with what Armstrong had hoped for.
This appeal reflects a previous instance where Rockstar Games showed compassion towards a terminally ill fan. In 2018, the studio granted a similar opportunity to a fan in the Netherlands, allowing them to play Red Dead Redemption 2 before its official launch. Such gestures underscore Rockstar’s commitment to its community and the emotional connection many fans have with their games.
As anticipation for GTA 6 continues to build, with a release date set for November 19, 2026, Armstrong’s story highlights the profound impact that video games can have on individual lives, especially during challenging times. The gaming community eagerly awaits further developments as Rockstar navigates its response to this unique request.
