New Mums Praise Compassionate Care at Hampshire Hospitals
Women who recently gave birth at hospitals operated by the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have expressed overwhelming satisfaction with the care they received. A national maternity survey revealed that new mothers found the services at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Andover War Memorial Hospital, and Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester to be “kind and compassionate.”
The survey, which targeted women who gave birth between April 22 and July 15, 2025, gathered responses from over 150 patients. Results indicated high levels of confidence and trust in the care provided. Remarkably, 99 percent of participants reported being treated with respect and dignity during labour. Additionally, the same percentage confirmed they felt involved in decisions regarding their care, while 94 percent indicated they received adequate support for mental health during pregnancy.
Strong Performance in National Rankings
The findings of this extensive survey, part of the patient survey programme coordinated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), positioned Hampshire Hospitals sixth out of 55 participating organisations. This positive outcome follows the trust’s recent achievement of a “good” rating for its maternity services, which was awarded after an inspection last year.
Julie Dawes, Chief Nurse at Hampshire Hospitals, expressed her delight at the survey results, stating, “We are thrilled that this year’s CQC maternity survey reflects such strong confidence in the care we provide.” She highlighted the commitment and compassion shown by the maternity teams, adding, “I’m incredibly proud of the difference they continue to make for women, babies, and families across our hospitals.”
Dawes acknowledged the positive feedback while recognizing the need for ongoing improvement. “While it’s encouraging to see such positive feedback, there is always more to do,” she noted. “We know how important it is that women feel safe, supported, and listened to throughout their maternity journey – we will keep working to ensure we consistently deliver the high-quality care they deserve.”
The complete results of the 2025 CQC maternity survey are available for public viewing on the CQC website, providing insights into the standards of maternity care across various healthcare providers in the UK.
