Tennessee Woman Surprised by Birth After Hospital Visit for Stomach Pain
In a surprising turn of events, Keionna Dickerson, a 31-year-old mother from Milan, Tennessee, went to the hospital in July 2025, expecting to receive treatment for severe stomach pains. Instead, she learned that she was in active labor and about to give birth to her fourth child.
Unexpected Discovery
Dickerson had experienced intense cramps while at work, compelling her to seek medical attention. She had no noticeable signs of pregnancy, such as a baby bump, and had continued to have regular menstrual periods for the past nine months. “I had no symptoms. I had regular periods. I really didn’t have a bump at all; I was the same size,” she told reporters.
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors conducted tests and were astonished to discover that she was already 35 weeks pregnant. “I had no clue I was pregnant. I was in active labor and didn’t know it,” Dickerson expressed, reflecting on her shocking revelation.
Hours after her admission, medical staff noted a decline in her baby’s heart rate, prompting an emergency C-section. Dickerson welcomed a healthy baby boy, whom she named Champion.
Understanding Cryptic Pregnancy
Dickerson’s experience falls under a phenomenon known as cryptic pregnancy, where women remain unaware of their pregnancy until late in gestation or even until delivery. Studies suggest that about one in 475 pregnancies go unnoticed until around 20 weeks, while approximately one in 2,500 may remain undetected until childbirth.
This condition often affects young women who have never been pregnant or those who mistakenly believe they have gone through menopause and do not use contraception. Factors such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which can cause irregular menstrual cycles, may also contribute to missed pregnancy signs.
Dickerson’s story gained significant attention after she shared her experience on TikTok, where her video quickly went viral, attracting over 1.5 million views. Many viewers expressed their fears and concerns regarding cryptic pregnancies in the comments section. “Dang, those cryptic pregnancies are terrifying,” one user remarked, while another added, “My biggest fear… oh my please never.”
As discussions about cryptic pregnancies continue to emerge, Dickerson’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of pregnancy and the importance of awareness surrounding women’s health.
