Woman’s Daily Hot Water Bottle Use Causes Severe Skin Damage
A 21-year-old woman from Leeds, Aishah Khan, has revealed that her habit of using a hot water bottle up to seven times a day since the age of 14 has resulted in severe skin damage. The frequent use, intended to alleviate bloating and cramps, has left her stomach with permanent scars, including blistering and dark pigmentation.
Aishah’s daily routine includes refilling her hot water bottle multiple times, even during summer. “I use one as soon as I wake up, just before 11:00, around 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, and 20:00,” she explained. The physical toll has become increasingly apparent, with the marks on her skin growing darker and more painful. She described her condition: “My skin was bleeding and blistering and really painful to touch. It honestly looks as if it’s burnt to a crisp.”
Despite the alarming symptoms, Aishah continues to rely on the heat for comfort while eating and drinking. Her general practitioner has prescribed cream to manage the bleeding but cautioned her about the likelihood of permanent scarring. “She recommended I avoid using the hot water bottle and wear shorts to let it heal, but I’m finding that very difficult,” Aishah noted. “The heat helps with the bloating and cramps after I’ve eaten something.”
The severity of Aishah’s condition has led her to reflect on her reliance on heat for comfort. “There is permanent scar tissue, especially on the more pigmented areas. It does upset me to realize how uncomfortable I feel with eating and drinking to the point my stomach is practically burnt to a crisp,” she said.
Concerned about the potential risks of prolonged hot water bottle use, Aishah is sharing her experience to raise awareness. She advises others to take precautions, stating, “I would recommend using a cover. I would use it without a cover when it was extremely hot, which has added to the damage and scar tissue to my stomach. You should fill half of it with cold water and then warm water, that way it’s not exceptionally warm. And don’t use one for a prolonged time. Seek out help if you’re in pain or discomfort.”
Aishah’s story serves as a cautionary tale for those who rely on hot water bottles for relief. Her experience underscores the importance of moderation and proper use to prevent serious health consequences.
