City Workers Trim Trees on Boulevard of Saint Peter Cetinjski
Workers from the municipal company Zelenilo d.o.o. have undertaken tree trimming along the Boulevard of Saint Peter Cetinjski in Podgorica. This initiative, part of their regular maintenance schedule, aims to ensure the safety and health of the urban green spaces.
The trimming process focuses on removing atrophied, degenerated branches and those in the dying phase. This precautionary measure helps prevent the potential hazards of fallen trees or branches, which can pose risks to pedestrians and vehicles alike. A spokesperson from Zelenilo emphasized the importance of this work, stating, “Regular pruning is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of the trees and enhancing public safety.”
On a related note, in late October 2022, Zelenilo announced plans to form a specialized team to inspect all the trees along the boulevard. This decision came after a melia tree collapsed onto the road, underscoring the need for proactive measures. The team will assess the health, quality, and stability of the trees in this area.
The boulevard is home to several mature melia trees, which have been noted for their striking appearance and have even been featured on prestigious global websites as some of the most beautiful in the world. Despite their aesthetic value, the age of these trees raises concerns. Historically, strong winds have caused branches to break, and there have been instances of entire trees falling, prompting Zelenilo to take action.
To enhance safety for residents and visitors, the company has reiterated its commitment to ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the boulevard’s trees. The creation of a dedicated commission of experts will facilitate a thorough evaluation of each tree’s condition, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to preserve both the beauty and safety of this iconic green space in Podgorica.
As community awareness grows regarding tree maintenance and urban forestry, the efforts of Zelenilo serve as a reminder of the balance between preserving nature and ensuring public safety. The ongoing maintenance of the Boulevard of Saint Peter Cetinjski highlights the city’s dedication to enhancing urban environments while protecting its residents.
