Diesel Prices in Montenegro Set to Rise by 24 Cents in 10 Days
In Montenegro, diesel prices are projected to increase significantly in the coming days. According to Zorana Sekulić from the Ministry of Energy and Mining, the cost per litre could rise from €1.50 to approximately €1.74 by March 23, 2024. This anticipated increase of 24 cents has raised concerns among consumers.
During an appearance on TVCG, Sekulić emphasized that this price adjustment is based on current market projections. She noted that such a scenario could lead to even higher diesel prices at pumps across the country. The Ministry is aware of the situation and is monitoring developments closely.
Recent Price Fluctuations and Impacts
The potential rise in diesel prices follows a recent surge that has already caused significant congestion at various fuel stations over the weekend. On Tuesday, prices for both diesel and gasoline saw a notable increase, prompting long lines as consumers rushed to fill their tanks before further hikes.
Despite the rising costs, Sekulić reassured the public that Montenegro is not facing a fuel shortage. The Ministry of Energy and Mining has stated that fuel supplies remain stable, even amidst the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting global oil prices. The situation is influenced by the conflict in the Middle East, particularly with the closure of the Hormuz Strait, a critical passage for oil transport.
Future Considerations and Tax Adjustments
Looking ahead, Sekulić mentioned that any further increases in diesel prices may necessitate a reduction in excise duties. This potential tax adjustment aims to alleviate the financial burden on consumers as fuel prices fluctuate in response to international markets.
The situation in Montenegro reflects broader trends in energy pricing, with many countries grappling with similar challenges stemming from supply chain issues and geopolitical instability. As consumers brace for potential price increases, the government’s response will be closely watched in the coming weeks.
In summary, the anticipated rise in diesel prices is a pressing issue for many Montenegrins. With the government actively monitoring the situation, consumers remain hopeful for proactive measures to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs.
