Environmental Inspection Halts Operations at Pljevlja Heating Plant
The Ministry of Ecology has ordered the suspension of operations at the heating plant located on Škerlićeva Street in Pljevlja, due to non-compliance with emissions standards. This decision follows an inspection by environmental authorities, which found that the air pollution levels from the facility exceeded the legal limits.
Ćulafić, a government representative, confirmed the action and emphasized that the plant will not resume operations until new measurements demonstrate compliance with the prescribed emission thresholds. “The heating plant will remain inactive until we can ensure that emissions are within acceptable limits,” Ćulafić stated.
According to the Ministry of Ecology, the halt in operations is a precautionary measure aimed at protecting public health and the environment. The inspection revealed that emissions from the plant were significantly above the established regulatory values.
In light of this situation, the Ministry has implemented strict monitoring protocols. The facility must address the issues identified in the inspection report before it can be permitted to restart its operations. The government aims to ensure that all energy production facilities adhere to environmental regulations to minimize their impact on air quality.
The decision to halt the heating plant’s operations is part of a broader effort by local authorities to combat air pollution in Pljevlja. This city has faced ongoing challenges related to environmental degradation, prompting increased scrutiny of industries operating in the region.
Residents of Pljevlja have expressed support for the Ministry’s actions, citing concerns over public health and air quality. Many local citizens have reported respiratory issues and other health problems believed to be linked to pollution from industrial sources.
As the Ministry continues to monitor the situation, further updates are expected regarding the timeline for compliance and the future of the heating plant. The local government remains committed to balancing energy production with environmental protection, underscoring the importance of sustainable practices in industrial operations.
