Glasgow Clan Calls on Fans to Support Local Christmas Appeals
Glasgow’s professional ice hockey team, the Glasgow Clan, is urging fans to contribute to local Christmas appeals aimed at assisting those in need during the festive season. The team, which plays at Braehead Arena, is requesting donations of toys and non-perishable food items to support two significant collections scheduled for this week.
On December 12, the Glasgow Clan is asking for donations of non-perishable food items for Feed East Renfrewshire Now (FERN), a local food bank. Additionally, the toy donation event for the Renfrewshire Toy Bank commenced on December 5. With themed skating sessions taking place daily, donation points for both initiatives will remain open throughout the week, encouraging community participation.
Robert Lachowicz, a player and assistant coach for the Glasgow Clan, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “Christmas is a time for family and for coming together with loved ones to celebrate. But for far too many people in Glasgow and in Scotland, that’s just not an option,” he stated.
Lachowicz highlighted the struggles faced by many families, noting that, “It’s hard for people at the moment making ends meet, with a lot of families being really worried about food, heating, rent, bills, safety – and that’s before even thinking about Santa.” He encouraged fans to contribute whatever they can, saying, “If you can spare anything – a pound, a fiver, a small toy, some tins of food – you can help us make a huge difference to people who really need it.”
The support from the Glasgow Clan is vital for local organizations. Dawn, Operations Director at FERN, remarked on the significance of such partnerships, stating, “We depend on the generosity of others to run our service, and having an organization like the Clan supporting us will not only have a huge impact on the volume of donations we receive but also help in raising our profile within the community.”
Dawn added that larger donations significantly enhance their ability to assist families, ensuring they can provide food packs to over 60 vulnerable families each week during the festive period and beyond.
As the holiday season approaches, the Glasgow Clan’s appeal resonates with the community’s spirit of giving. This initiative not only aims to provide immediate support but also fosters a sense of unity and compassion among local residents.
For those looking to make a difference, contributions of food and toys can be made at Braehead Arena throughout the week, reinforcing the message that even small acts of kindness can create a meaningful impact in the lives of others during this special time of year.
