Labour Elite Gather for Emily Benn’s Wedding in London
On September 20, 2025, notable figures from the Labour Party and beyond converged at St Margaret’s Church in London to celebrate the wedding of Emily Benn, granddaughter of the late Labour politician Tony Benn. The ceremony marked a significant occasion not only for the couple but also for the political lineage represented at the event.
A Star-Studded Guest List
Emily Benn exchanged vows with Group RAF Captain James Niall Doyle in a ceremony attended by a diverse array of guests. Among them were former Prime Minister’s wife Cherie Blair, current Labour ministers such as Wes Streeting, and the charismatic royal aide Johnny Thompson, who has gained popularity as the “hot equerry” since his public appearances following the late Queen’s passing.
The picturesque church, situated within the grounds of Westminster Abbey, served as a stunning backdrop for the wedding. Guests arrived dressed in elegant attire, with Thompson and his wife, Olivia, turning heads as they made their entrance. Also seen was academic and broadcaster Mary Beard, who wore striking red footwear, contributing to the event’s vibrant atmosphere.
A Political Legacy
Emily Benn, 35, has carved out her own political path, continuing a family tradition that stretches back over a century. Elected as a councillor in the City of London in 2022, she previously served as a Croydon councillor under the Labour Party starting in 2014. Her engagement in politics has made her the fifth generation of her family to serve in public office. Notably, her uncle Hilary Benn currently holds the position of Secretary of State for Northern Ireland under Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.
Her grandfather, Tony Benn, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 88, was first elected as an MP in 1950. He served in multiple cabinets, including that of Harold Wilson, and was known for his outspoken political views. His legacy continues through Emily, who has embraced her family’s commitment to public service.
The wedding was not only a personal milestone for the couple but a reflection of the enduring ties between the Benn family and the Labour Party. With such a prominent guest list, the event signifies the interconnectedness of political and social spheres in contemporary Britain.
As Emily and James embark on their new journey together, the presence of esteemed guests underscores the significance of their union within the broader context of British politics and history.
