Montenegro to Close Five Chapters After Talks with Macron
Montenegro is set to close five chapters in its European Union accession process following recent discussions between President Jakov Milatović and French President Emmanuel Macron. The announcement comes after constructive talks that took place over the last two days, highlighting a significant diplomatic breakthrough for the Balkan nation.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Milatović expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of his dialogue with Macron. He stated that this positive engagement will facilitate Montenegro’s progress at the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference, where the country anticipates finalizing the closure of all five chapters.
The chapters in question are essential components of Montenegro’s efforts to align with EU standards and regulations. The closure of these chapters is considered a pivotal step towards Montenegro’s integration into the European Union, which has been a long-standing goal for the nation.
Milatović conveyed his enthusiasm for future cooperation, stating, “I look forward to seeing you, dear friend, in Brussels at the EU–Western Balkans summit next week, and then in Montenegro next year.” This statement underscores the importance of ongoing dialogue between Montenegro and France as well as broader EU collaboration.
The recent diplomatic activities have reportedly led to a more favorable stance from France, marking an important shift in their approach towards Montenegro’s EU aspirations. This development reflects a growing commitment from European leaders to support the Western Balkan countries in their integration efforts.
As Montenegro prepares for the upcoming conference, the government is optimistic about the potential for enhanced partnerships within the EU framework. Closing these chapters is expected to bolster Montenegro’s position within the region and contribute to its economic and political stability.
The Intergovernmental Conference, scheduled for next week, will be closely watched by EU officials and observers. It represents a significant opportunity for Montenegro to demonstrate its readiness for membership and to solidify its relationships with key EU member states.
Montenegro’s journey towards EU membership has faced various challenges over the years, but the recent developments indicate a renewed momentum. The commitment from leaders like Macron and Milatović highlights the importance of diplomacy in advancing Montenegro’s integration process.
With this progress, Montenegro is poised to take significant strides towards fulfilling its European ambitions, potentially setting a precedent for other nations in the Western Balkans seeking similar paths.
