Montenegro’s National Team Prepares for UEFA Nations League
Montenegro’s national football team is set to compete in Group C2 of the UEFA Nations League, facing Armenia, Cyprus, and the winner of the playoff between Latvia and Gibraltar. The decisive matches between Latvia and Gibraltar will take place on March 26 and March 31, 2024. Following the draw held in Brussels, Montenegro’s head coach, Mirko Vučinić, emphasized the need to focus on each match as it comes.
Vučinić addressed the media after the draw, stating, “When the time comes for the Nations League, we will think about it, but we are not in a position to turn our attention to that now. We will take it match by match.” This approach reflects the team’s strategy to build momentum through upcoming games.
Before the Nations League kicks off, Montenegro will play two friendly matches in March against Andorra and Slovenia. Additionally, they have two more fixtures scheduled for June. Vučinić believes that these four encounters will be critical for the team’s development.
“We must utilize these four matches correctly. Since I became the coach, we have discussed the importance of working hard and moving in the same direction. Only by doing so can we progress, and I hope we achieve a significant result,” he noted.
The Nations League will commence in September and conclude in November 2024. Each team in the group will play a total of six matches—one at home and one away against each opponent. Following these matches, a playoff will be held at the end of March 2025. The group winner will secure direct promotion to League B and a playoff spot for the EURO 2028 qualification.
With a clear vision and determined leadership, Montenegro aims to capitalize on every opportunity in the upcoming matches and lay a strong foundation for their performance in the Nations League.
