Montenegro’s Raičević and Roganović Reach Semi-Finals at Euros
Montenegro’s boxing team celebrated a significant achievement at the European Junior Championship held in Germany this September. Boxers Nikola Raičević and Matija Roganović both secured their spots in the semi-finals, guaranteeing at least bronze medals for their country.
In the under 50-kilogram category, Raičević faced off against Greek competitor Dimostenis Zikos. After a closely contested match that saw Zikos take the first round 3:2, Raičević rebounded with impressive skill and determination. He won the subsequent rounds decisively, leading to a 4:1 decision by the judges. Raičević’s semi-final opponent will be Berat Ahduman from Turkey, who is also expected to provide a strong challenge.
Roganović’s performance in the under 80-kilogram category was even more dominant. He overpowered Israeli boxer Georg Asaf, a previous European silver medalist for schoolboys, winning by a clear margin. Roganović not only showcased his boxing prowess but also managed to put Asaf in a knockdown, further solidifying his victory. His next opponent is Dmitro Kasianenko from Ukraine, who advanced after defeating Latvian Vladislavs Ustinovs.
Reflecting on the fighters’ success, coach Nikola Ružić expressed immense pride in their achievements. He stated, “Both Raičević and Roganović demonstrated remarkable maturity, discipline, and fighting spirit. Nikola showed composure and a strong fighting spirit against a tough opponent, securing a medal at the European Championship as a testament to the hard work and belief in the process. Matija’s total dominance in his fight for a medal reaffirms that Montenegro has a bright future in this sport.”
These victories are not just personal milestones for the athletes but also serve as motivation for the further development of Montenegro’s junior boxing team. The results reflect the dedication and effort of both the athletes and their support staff, establishing a solid foundation for future competitions. With both boxers now aiming for gold, the upcoming semi-finals promise to be thrilling encounters.
