Politician Ivan Vuković Seeks Police Action After Online Threats
Ivan Vuković, a member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), has requested police intervention following a series of threatening messages directed at him on social media platforms. The incidents come in the wake of his recent comments acknowledging the closure of a chapter in negotiations with the European Union.
In his public statement, Vuković addressed the derogatory remarks he received, including phrases like “nothing but goods” and “thief.” He expressed his belief that such insults are part and parcel of political life. However, he highlighted a particular comment that raised concern: “Stasao si za gepek,” a phrase that translates to “You’ve grown for the trunk,” which he found troubling.
Vuković emphasized the importance of addressing online threats, stating, “While insults are something a politician should endure, I would appreciate it if the police could take action regarding these threats.” His appeal underscores a growing concern regarding the safety of public figures in the digital age, where social media can serve as a platform for harassment.
The political climate in Montenegro has been increasingly polarized, and Vuković’s position as a politician places him at the forefront of heated discussions. The threats he received reflect broader societal tensions that often spill into personal attacks online.
As the situation develops, the response from law enforcement will be closely observed. Vuković’s call for police action not only seeks to address his personal safety but also highlights the need for protections against online harassment for all public officials.
