McDonald’s Closes Overnight Seating for Staff Safety Concerns
A McDonald’s restaurant in Aylesford, UK, has decided to close its indoor seating from midnight to 5 a.m. due to concerns for staff safety stemming from incidents of anti-social behaviour. The branch, located on Hermitage Lane between Aylesford and Barming, has faced repeated disturbances, prompting this decision.
A notice on the restaurant’s door states: “Instore is closed overnight due to safety concerns for the staff.” While the indoor area will no longer be accessible during these hours, the drive-thru and delivery services will remain operational, ensuring customers can still access food during the overnight period.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the fast-food chain confirmed that the Aylesford McDonald’s continues to operate 24 hours a day without any changes to its other services. The representative emphasized that the decision to temporarily close the indoor seating area is part of their commitment to prioritizing the safety of both staff and customers.
The company has not detailed the specific incidents of anti-social behaviour that led to this measure. Nevertheless, they have indicated that they are collaborating closely with local police and authorities to develop effective and long-term solutions to address safety concerns.
The move reflects a rising trend among businesses in urban areas responding to similar challenges. With safety becoming a paramount concern, more establishments are re-evaluating their operational hours and service models to protect their employees and patrons.
As the situation develops, both McDonald’s and local authorities are expected to monitor the circumstances closely to ensure a safe environment for all.
