US and Israel Launch Major Strikes Against Iran’s Leadership

A significant military operation involving the United States and Israel has commenced, targeting key installations in Iran with the goal of regime change. The strikes reportedly began with an assault on the compound of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in central Tehran, although it remains unclear if he was present during the attack. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that both Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian are alive, “as far as I know,” according to an interview with NBC News.

In a video statement, US President Donald Trump condemned the Iranian regime for its decades-long hostility towards the United States, asserting, “For 47 years, the Iranian regime has chanted Death to America and waged an unending campaign of bloodshed.” He urged Iranians to take cover and expressed hope that they would reclaim their government after the operation concluded.

The conflict escalated rapidly, with reports indicating that at least 85 people were killed when a girls’ school was struck in southern Iran, as stated by the local governor on Iranian state television. Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for US Central Command, acknowledged awareness of the incident and noted that investigations were ongoing.

In retaliation, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced a “first wave” of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel. As a result, a nationwide alert was issued in Israel, with the military confirming interception of incoming Iranian fire. The Iranian Foreign Ministry declared that the nation would not hesitate to respond, emphasizing a commitment to defend its territory.

The situation intensified further as missile attacks were reported in Bahrain, targeting the US Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters. Witnesses described sirens and explosions in Kuwait, with similar incidents reported in Qatar. The United Arab Emirates confirmed one fatality from falling debris during the conflict, and air defense systems activated over Dubai.

The Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen also announced plans to resume attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea and on Israel. Trump indicated that the US had initiated “major combat operations in Iran,” following the mobilization of a substantial fleet of fighter jets and warships in the region. He expressed concerns that Iran was continuing to develop its nuclear capabilities and missile technology.

Despite claims from Iran that it has not enriched uranium since June, its nuclear facilities have been under scrutiny. Satellite imagery analyzed by the Associated Press has revealed new activity at sites previously targeted, suggesting that Iran may be attempting to recover materials. While Iran’s ballistic missile program is reportedly limited to a range of 1,240 miles, this capability poses a threat to the entire Middle East and parts of eastern Europe.

Tensions have escalated dramatically in recent weeks as US military presence in the region increased. Trump expressed a desire for a new deal to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions while also acknowledging potential American casualties in the ongoing conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the military actions were intended to remove an “existential threat” posed by Iran, claiming that the joint operations would pave the way for the Iranian populace to reclaim their future. Reports indicate that Israeli targets included military sites and symbols of government authority.

As attacks unfolded, explosions were heard throughout Israel, prompting hospitals to activate emergency protocols, including relocating patients to underground facilities. US embassies in Qatar, the UAE, and Israel advised staff to shelter in place and recommended that all American citizens do the same until further notice.

This unfolding conflict marks a significant escalation in hostilities between the US, Israel, and Iran, with profound implications for regional stability and international relations.
