Apple Launches iPhone Air: Pre-Orders Open September 12
Apple has unveiled its latest lineup of smartphones, including the much-anticipated iPhone Air, during its annual showcase on September 9, 2023. The event, held at the company’s headquarters in California, introduced the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the iPhone Air. Pre-orders for all models will commence at 13:00 on September 12, with the devices set to be available starting September 19. Retailers such as Sky Mobile, EE, Mobiles.co.uk, Vodafone, and Three will offer the new devices, while customers can also purchase them directly from Apple and Amazon.
The standout feature of the new range is the iPhone Air, which Apple claims is the thinnest iPhone to date. The starting price is set at £999 or $1,287, pending confirmation from other retailers. The iPhone Air measures just 5.1mm in thickness and weighs 165g, making it the first model in Apple’s ‘Air’ series, previously reserved for iPads and MacBooks.
Design and Features of the iPhone Air
The iPhone Air boasts a Grade 5 titanium frame, composed of 80% recycled materials, which Apple states enhances both its strength and aesthetic appeal. It features a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display, protected by a durable Ceramic Shield that makes the device four times more resistant to cracks compared to the iPhone 16.
Powering the device is the latest-generation A19 Pro chip, described as “the fastest processor in any smartphone,” capable of seamlessly handling even the most demanding applications. The iPhone Air’s battery performance has also improved, enabling up to 27 hours of video playback on a single charge and achieving 50% charge in just 30 minutes.
For photography enthusiasts, the iPhone Air is equipped with a 48MP Fusion camera system, which features two advanced cameras for capturing high-resolution images. The device also includes an 8MP Centre Stage front camera, ideal for video calls and selfies.
Software and Availability
The iPhone Air will ship with iOS 26, introducing features such as a new liquid glass design, a dynamic lock screen, and an innovative call screening feature that identifies unknown callers before the recipient answers. Additionally, advanced AI capabilities offer tools for live translation, photo cleanup, and visual intelligence, allowing users to interact more effectively with their content.
Storage options for the iPhone Air include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, with color choices of Sky Blue, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Space Black. With its unique design and cutting-edge technology, the iPhone Air is poised to attract significant consumer interest as pre-orders open on September 12.
