BT Users Alerted as Netflix Withdrawal Affects Older Devices
BT has announced that users of its older set-top boxes will soon lose access to the Netflix streaming service. This change, affecting devices like the TV Recordable Box (G4) and the TV Box (Z4), is set to take effect on March 4, 2026. As streaming has become a popular way to watch television, many viewers rely on services such as Netflix for their entertainment.
The decision to withdraw Netflix from these devices stems from an upgrade to the streaming platform’s app. While these improvements aim to enhance user experience, they will not be compatible with older technology. Similar issues arose in December 2025 when Disney+ ceased support for some Apple devices due to compatibility challenges.
In a statement, BT explained, “This is happening because Netflix is updating its app to create the best experience, and it will no longer be compatible with these boxes.” Customers are encouraged to verify that their devices are up-to-date to avoid losing access to their favorite shows.
Impact on BT Customers
For those using the affected boxes, the shutdown means that popular Netflix series such as Stranger Things and Bridgerton will no longer be accessible. BT is advising customers to consider upgrading to newer models if they wish to maintain their Netflix subscriptions. The provider confirmed that other devices, including the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will continue to support Netflix without interruption.
BT reassured its customers, stating, “Your Netflix subscription won’t be affected, and you can continue to watch on supported devices.” This message highlights that while some users may need to transition to newer technology, their subscriptions will remain intact.
Security Concerns for Netflix Users
This warning comes at a time when Netflix subscribers are facing increased cybersecurity threats. Reports indicate that phishing emails targeting Netflix customers have been circulating, attempting to steal personal information by falsely claiming that payment details must be updated. Netflix has alerted users to these scams, urging them not to engage with any suspicious billing alert emails.
For those concerned about their subscriptions, it is recommended to check account details directly through the Netflix app or website. As streaming continues to evolve, staying updated on compatible devices is essential for uninterrupted access to entertainment.
