Impedance Analysis Webinar to Enhance Battery Modeling Techniques
A webinar scheduled for 3 p.m. GMT and 10 a.m. EST on January 21, 2026, will explore the integration of impedance analysis in the development of physics-based battery models. This event will focus on how electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) can enhance the understanding and modeling of battery behavior by extracting crucial parameters for models like the Doyle–Fuller–Newman (DFN) model and the reduced-order single-particle model with electrolyte (SPMe).
The session will introduce PyBaMM (Python Battery Mathematical Modelling), an open-source framework designed for flexible and efficient battery simulation. Participants will learn about a new extension, PyBaMM-EIS, which facilitates rapid numerical impedance computation applicable to any implemented model at various operating points. Additionally, the webinar will feature PyBOP, another open-source tool that automates the parameter fitting process using measured impedance data across different states of charge.
Given the complexity of battery modeling, achieving accurate fits is often challenging. The techniques presented during the webinar promise a flexible approach to update model equations and parameterize models effectively using impedance data. This methodology creates a seamless transition from measurement to model to simulation, enhancing the overall predictive capability of battery behavior.
Expert Insights from Leading Researchers
Noël Hallemans, a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Oxford, will lead the session. Previously, he lectured in mathematics at St Hugh’s College and earned his PhD in 2023 from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the University of Warwick. His research focuses on integrating EIS with physics-based modeling to improve battery understanding and prediction. Hallemans also develops multisine EIS techniques for characterizing batteries during operational states, such as charging or relaxation.
The webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the presenters and delve deeper into the topic.
Participants interested in joining this insightful session are encouraged to register in advance. A verification email will be sent upon registration; however, it may take longer in some cases. Attendees should check their spam folders if they do not receive the email immediately. For assistance, they can contact [email protected].
This webinar represents a significant opportunity for professionals and researchers in the field to gain valuable insights into the latest advancements in battery modeling techniques, with a focus on the practical application of EIS.
