Perceptra Secures €1.2 Million Funding to Advance Photonic Sensors
Perceptra has successfully raised €1.2 million in funding, marking a significant step in the development and commercialization of its next-generation photonic chip-based Raman sensors. This funding, which includes a loan, will enable the company to enhance its research efforts and accelerate the market introduction of its innovative technology.
Funding to Propel Innovation in Molecular Sensing
According to CEO Amir Atabaki, the support from PhotonDelta signifies a crucial moment in transforming Perceptra’s research into a scalable business. “Integrated photonics is redefining what’s possible in molecular sensing,” Atabaki stated. He emphasized that joining the PhotonDelta ecosystem in the Netherlands will provide access to advanced fabrication capabilities, thereby hastening development and facilitating the launch of its first photonic sensing products.
The funding represents a continuation of the collaboration between Perceptra and PhotonDelta, following the startup’s recent recognition in the 2025 Global Photonics Engineering Contest. Perceptra was awarded for its ultra-compact photonic chip-based Raman sensor, designed for real-time molecular monitoring specifically in biomanufacturing.
Perceptra’s technology aims to replace conventional bulky dispersive spectrometers with on-chip tunable lasers. This innovation is expected to deliver a more compact and cost-effective solution for molecular monitoring across biomanufacturing and various process industries. Having already demonstrated proof-of-concept, Perceptra plans to utilize the funding to develop its first photonic integrated circuit (PIC)-based version of the sensor system.
Strategic Relocation to Enhance R&D
To further its research and development efforts, Perceptra will relocate its integrated photonic operations to the Netherlands. This move is intended to strengthen its collaboration with the PhotonDelta network, which is known for its commitment to advancing integrated photonics in Europe. By tapping into this ecosystem, Perceptra aims to harness local expertise and resources, accelerating the commercialization of its innovative sensing technologies.
As Perceptra embarks on this next phase of development, the company remains focused on delivering solutions that could revolutionize real-time molecular monitoring, significantly impacting the efficiency and effectiveness of biomanufacturing processes. The successful acquisition of €1.2 million funding positions Perceptra to take a leading role in the evolving field of photonic sensing.
